Rhine Stories is a quiet, observational series created between 2016 and 2019, documenting life along a particular stretch of the Rhine riverbank in Düsseldorf. Shot from two fixed points on a single bridge, the work explores how people inhabit this shared space - walking, resting, running, connecting, being alone. The riverbank becomes a living canvas of subtle gestures and fleeting moments.
When I moved to Düsseldorf, starting this project gave me an anchor. It was a quiet but liberating focus, a way to connect with an unfamiliar city through observation. I noticed by each visit how nothing is ever on the same place again, but rather in a constant movement and change. Even stone hearts, visible only from above, reflect a collective need to leave something behind, however briefly.
The work speaks to impermanence, belonging, and the gentle ways in which we interact with the world and with each other.
